ios 15 not remembering account passwords

Is anyone having issues with iOS 15 or iPadOS 15 not remembering account passwords in settings. I am having to log into my outlook.com and other accounts daily now vs ever few weeks. This is happening on my iPhone 13 (but started on my iPhone XS Max after upgrading to 15 before my new phone arrived) and it is happening on a new iPad Air that I installed fresh, no restore from backup.

Really annoying.

I have the same issue with Exchange for my work e-mail. It keeps popping up the requirements for a password but has evidently tried in the background and locks me out of the account. I have wait until my IT department can unlock before I can even use my computer.

I have deleted the account, restarted my phone and added the account back. It atill

happens!

it does t appear to happen to all of my co-workers. Just me and my iPhone 12 Pro Max.

I’m so frustrated!

Hello and welcome to Apple Support Communities EdHans,

Thank you for contacting us. We can definitely take a look at this with you. As we understand it, you're passwords are not auto filling? We can understand why you’d reach out for a solution. To start, we want to confirm iCloud Keychain is turned on for all your devices. Additionally,  we want to clarify if they are stored in your iCloud Keychain, and if so, if there is a security recommendation on the ones that are giving you an issue? Start with the troubleshooting here: If iCloud Keychain won't turn on or sync

If you need further assistance after following the link above, please don't hesitate to reach out with the answers to the questions above.

Thank you for contacting Apple Support Communities.

Best regards.

Thanks for responding. Yes, I just checked. iCloud Keychain is enabled on both my iPhone and iPad. That isn't the issue though.

The password that is being forgotten is in the account settings. So in Settings, go to Contacts, then Accounts. When I log in, it works, but may forget the password (or something breaks) and I have to re-login anywhere from 4hrs to 2 days. This was never a problem with iOS 14. It would only do the re-login process every 30-60 days, which is understandable.

EdHans,

Thank you for your response and updated information. Okay, we see where this is happening, and you stated Outlook. Is your Outlook email the same as your Apple ID? If so, it may require an app specific password. We recommend giving that a try and then doing a backup and see if that resolves your issue.

Using app-specific passwords:"App-specific passwords are passwords for your Apple ID that let you sign in to your account and securely access the information you store in iCloud from a third-party app. For example, use app-specific passwords with mail, contacts, and calendar services not provided by Apple. App-specific passwords maintain a high level of security and help ensure your Apple ID password won’t be collected or stored by any third-party apps you use."

If you need further assistance after following the link above, please don't hesitate to reach out.

Thank you for contacting Apple Support Communities.

Best regards.

I MAY have found the issue. It has been almost 24 hours since I changed it and I haven’t received the pop up telling me that my Exchange password is incorrect. Go to iCloud.com in Safari and check your time zone setting. Mine was set to Pacific which is INCORRECT and must have gotten changed during the iOS 15 update. I set it to the correct Eastern time zone and no pop up so far in the last 22 hours. It’s worth a try and needs to be corrected anyway if it is wrong like mine was. See screenshot below.

No, that isn’t it. I know what an App Specific Password is, and this isn’t necessary here. One of these is an Outlook.com account, but when I log in via the Accounts section in iOS Settings, it asks for my 2FA, which is correct. App specific passwords is only for apps that do not understand 2FA. I’ve been doing this for YEARS - since at least iOS 8 or so, ever since the iOS account settings understood 2FA. It has always worked. It STILL works, except for the part where it forgets way WAY too soon, and this only started happening last week. Which was when I upgraded to iOS 15 and iPadOS 15.

EdHans,

Thanks for that. We investigated further after your hotmail suggestion. We would like you to check the settings on the phone and see if the below settings are the same:

Mail settings Hotmail. (FYI, Same for Outlook)

POP / IMAP imap

Incoming server: outlook.office365.com

Incoming port: 993

SSl (security) incoming: ssl

Outgoing server: smtp.office365.com

Outgoing port: 587

Requires sign-in: yes

This is the step by step guide recommended, and they are saying to confirm it after creating it, then restarting the device. That just may be the key for your situation.

iPhone guide to setup Hotmail mail

Open 'Settings', click on 'Passwords & accounts' and 'Add account'.

click on 'Other'

Choose 'Add mail account', and enter the following information:

Name: your own name

Email: your Hotmail email address

Password: your Hotmail email password

Description: a personal description

Choose imap and enter the following details under 'Incoming mail server':

Hostname: outlook.office365.com

Username: your Hotmail email address

Password: your Hotmail email password

Under 'Outgoing mail server' enter the details below and choose 'next':

Hostname: smtp.office365.com

Username: your Hotmail email address

Password: your Hotmail email password

Make sure 'Email' is checked and click 'Save'.

Your email account is now saved. In the next steps we check if all settings are correct.

Click on your newly created email address and choose 'Advanced'.

Make sure that the following data is

correct under 'Incoming server':

Use SSL: on

Identity check: password

Server port: 993

Go back to the previous screen and under 'Outgoing server' click on smtp.office365.com.

Make sure the following information is correct:

Use SSL: on

Identity check: password

Server port: 587

Choose 'Done' at the top right and restart the iPhone to activate the settings

We hope we finally found a solution for you. If you still continue to need assistance after that, please get in touch with Apple Support directly next: Get Support

Cheers.

I have exactly the same issue!

My company uses Exchange 2013, no changes made to the Exchange server and since upgrading to iOS 15 email app at least once a day is asking for a password. This does not appear to cause any issues for any non Apple Users or those with older iOS versions.

The problem is, my domain account is highly privileged meaning when the wrong password is provided 3 times, the account is locked out until manually unlocked. When my account has got locked out for 2 days in the row, a security investigation was launched in to reason why the account was locked out yet again and whether the company is being attacked. This has taken up business time and resource to look in to an issue caused by an iOS Update, totally unacceptable

This is causing my account to be locked out EVERY SINGLE DAY stopping me from being able to work!!!
