Apple Pay in the Netherlands

Has anyone had experience using Apple Pay linked to a US debit or credit card for a retail purchase in the Netherlands?

This does not answer my question, which is:

Does Apple Pay enable the consumer to conduct PoS transactions in the Netherlands despite being linked to a US debit card or credit card that the retailer otherwise won't accept?

Sure, Apple Pay is "supported," but unless you have a Maestro card from a Dutch bank linked to it, I suspect it will not be accepted.

Debit cards in NL are ONLY of MasterCard's Maestro platform, which is incompatible with any US-based debit card, including Debit MasterCard. These retailers also do not accept credit cards of any kind.
