I am currently using XR can i use apple’s 20w charger brick? Will it damage XR’s battery ?

You can safely use the 20W USB-C charger, but you will need a USB-C to Lightning cable. The charge rate is regulated by a circuit in the phone, which will only take what it wants. It will not charge any faster than it will with a 12W iPad charger, however.

Yes you can. No harm to your iPhone or its battery. You just need a lightning to USB-C cable.
The charger doesn’t “push” power; it just supplies the power “drawn” by the device.
