Pages 11.2 - Find and Replace Not Working

no luck for me. I restarted computer. open and closed Pages, opened a new document, etc. basically tried everything suggested in this thread but still no ability to find text. On one try it stated "Not found", but other times even "Not found" is not indicated. I did not find anything in the Library folder, like a Preferences file, that might be corrupted.

I have been following this and similar discussions for quite a while now. There are many good tips to help people solve this problem. And in most cases it can be remedied quite easily.

So far so good.

What I have never (seldom?) read is the word "bug". For me the issue at hand is clearly and outright a bug, software that does not work. Even if there is a simple fix it is still a bug.

So please, you all, helpers and folks being helped: Report this to Apple, give them feedback. The current state of Pages (and the other apps in the iWork suite) is inferior and has been so for many many moons (actually years). They have all the means to make things "insanely great". Let's help them by letting them know!

Same problem as grinninbarrett described above. Updated to OS 12.0, tried find and replace in Pages again, still didn't work. Followed UncleFlinsky's advice and the find feature works again. I see no update for a significant bug Pages, but shutting down, turning off all other apps and starting with only a fresh page isn't functional.

With respect…in my case, the Find AND REPLACE function, has ceased to exist!!! Is there any hint as to why that may be? It’s not something that can even be selected any more. (FIND works ok; but Find AND REPLACE, again, simply doesn’t exist to be selected. Why on Earth would that be???)

For me the problem does reoccur after some HOURS! This is sooooo annoying🤬Have been with Apple since 2010 - anything like this has NEVER happened! And now it doesn't find the word if the first letter is capitalized either! And they didn't fix the PROBLEM in the latest update Version 12.1. Do they even read our complaints? And I have got other problems too. Instead of Helvetica I'm getting font Times which I hate. I check Fonts and it shows that Helvetica IS √checked!!! I have to select the text, click on Helvetica (which IS ALREADY checked!!!) and only then I see me text in Helvetica. Have to do it 100 times a day! Besides the SIZE of the fonts - though is 18 by default - appears anything BUT 18 - from 2 to 45! And the font colour changes at its will too. I've been using 3 languages and they switch at will too NOW! Never been a problem in years! And another disgusting glitch - If I copy and past a text from FB and it has emojis it it, they appear HUGE and I have to delete them and replace using Emoji and Symbols from Pages! Have to do it 100 times a day too! It's absolutely user UNFRIENDLY NOW‼️ And I have many other problems - I keep a list - there are 64 problems now. Do I need to spend the rest of my life complaining? Even when I had a session at the Apple store with some of my questions earlier, the tech support people (those geniuses, you know) could NOT fix ANY! Only the 4th genius could fix some but as soon as I got home ALL the problems are BACK! I'm 75 and a PWD and I have difficulty walking and + Covid fear + old age aches and pains but if I kill myself, it will be because of Apple that upsets me every MINUTE of every day! What a waste of my TIME!

Thanks for that. Has this problem reappeared for anyone after applying this "Apple recommended" fix? I ask because I want to keep 5-10 pages documents open at a time. I have plenty of memory and processors, just want to be able to work efficiently.

So you open one document only, and then close/reopen when it happens? It seems like with multiple docs open, it breaks for all the docs

I’d be interested if close/reopen one doc works, with multiple docs open after you’ve had it restore the windows on restart. I seem to notice it coming up broken after restart with docs open.

I use it to get to a bunch of lab notebooks pertaining to different experiments that are running concurrently. Maybe I should use notes, but then I can’t do lab notebook style page headers.

this function appears to not recognize that there is an open document ready to be searched.

It's hard to believe Apple is not addressing this bug in a most basic function.

That's interesting. I, however, never shut down, yet the problem of FIND quitting persists. I do however put my computer to Sleep all the time with the file open and sitting in the dock. I wonder if that has the same effect as shutting down. I'll try closing the file and Pages when I place the computer in Sleep mode and see what happens.

It pains me to say this, but when I bought the original 128k Macintosh computer it came bundled with MacWrite 1.0 — which included a fully functional “Find” and “Find & Replace” command. Apple might have done a lot of innovating since 1983, but to not have a working FIND & REPLACE function in today’s PAGES is hard to justify.

It's beyond absurd that not only is this a solution but that it's the Apple Recommended one. Regardless, thanks anyway.

Seems the bug is still in place... I successfully followed your method Benjamin (many thanks) but the bug returns after a restart. I hope Apple will address this problem soon.
