Why is my portrait mode on 7 plus not working

My portrait is not working since 3 years ago after I dropped it with apple leather case, the 1x zoom is broken but not the 2x but why is portrait not working? As apple said they use the telephoto lens to use portrait but why is my portrait mode broken if my telephoto lens is working?
