Prompt: This iPhone was not able to download ### full-resolution photos and videos. If you continue, the low-resolution versions of these photos and videos will be removed

Hello gwatsmiles,

Thanks for reaching out through the Apple Support Communities about downloading your photos before disabling iCloud Photos on your iPhone.

When you check the Photos app on your iPhone, low-resolution photos should have an exclamation point icon.

Your iPhone will need to have enough storage space to hold the full-resolution versions of your photos in order for them to remain on your iPhone after disabling iCloud Photos. This article has more details, for reference: Get help with iCloud Photos

Hopefully that addresses your concern.

Take care.

gwatsmiles,

If you haven’t already done so, you can check the iCloud website to confirm the Recently Deleted folder is also empty there: iCloud

Afterwards, you can attempt once again to disable iCloud Photos.

Should you still continue to get that prompt, despite having enough available space on your iPhone to download any remaining photos or videos, you’ll want to reach out to Apple Support to get further assistance: Contact Apple Support

Cheers.

Hi chuckbl! Thanks for that explanation. However, I have already toggled the download and keep originals option. That is, when I scroll to the bottom part of the photos app, the status is already "Updated". There seemed to be no pending uploads/downloads anymore. But then upon turning off iCloud Photos, the prompt still showed up.

I would like to think that those 105 missing photos were in the Recently Deleted folder that I just emptied shortly. You know, things happened quickly, I already forgot what I was doing that time. Really hoping for this, I would then have peace of mind then. 😅

gwatsmiles,

Where there approximately a hundred photos in the Recently Deleted album?

If you check under the Settings > General > About menu, how much available space is listed there?

If you have plenty of available space, then that prompt may be related to the photos that were in the Recently Deleted album.

Also, do you sync your photos with any other devices? If so, are your other devices showing the same number of photos as your iPhone?

Regards.

Hi chuckbl,

It could be possible. But I'm no longer so sure.

I want to understand, if ever the photos in Recently Deleted folder were permanently deleted, would it still be able to prompt about removing the low-resolution photos? Or if ever the photos just stayed in the Recently Deleted folder until they expire, would it prompt about removing the low-resolution photos if I try to turn off iCloud Photos? My understanding is that the 105 photos were fully uploaded but just couldn't be downloaded back to iPhone. And I don't know why.

Upon checking, I still have a healthy storage space available on my phone.

I don't sync the photos with any other devices - hence only from iphone to icloud.

Hi!

Sorry, I think I need some more clarification. Hope you could still help.

What could possibly be the cause of iPhone not being able to download full-resolution files from iCloud upon synchronization? I do not sync my files in iTunes, therefore this detail shall not apply -- "Any photos or videos you copy to your device through iTunes are not copied in iCloud Photos."

Thanks in advance!
