Google Search Suggestions

I used to be able to see google search suggestions appear as I typed in the search box. I'm not sure what I did but I can no longer get those. The suggestions are just not appearing anymore.

There has been a change at Google.
If you guys are using their Home page for searches,
They are no longer recording history unless you are signed in at their site.

+Web History only records your web activity while you're signed in to your Google Account. You'll know that you're signed in if you see your email address in the top right corner of your Google homepage. If you visit webpages or perform searches without signing in, they won't be recorded.+
+Web History doesn't record the addresses of webpages that are prefixed with https://.+
+Web History can record both your searches on Google properties and the addresses of pages you visit. It only records searches made on certain Google properties such as Google Web Search, Google Images, Google News, Google Product Search, Google Video, Google Maps, Google Books, and on particular Google domains. If you're using other Google products such as Google Reader, or if you're searching on some country-specific Google domains (such as Google.ae), your searches and clicks won't be recorded.+
+To configure Web History so that it also records the sites you visit, you need to use your Google Toolbar. If you enable Web History in Toolbar, the Toolbar will send URLs of pages you've visited to Google to be stored with your Google Account. Learn more.+

+You also need to make sure that your web history isn't limited to searches. To expand your web history, click the Expand your web history link at the top of your web history page.+

So, if Google is not keeping history, it will not make suggestion, eh?
Just a thought.

Your problem may not be exactly the same as that of the original poster of this thread, and it can be very confusing for everybody if we try to answer more than one question in each thread.

In order for us to give your problem our undivided attention in order to try to solve it, would you kindly start your own thread, describing the trouble you are having in the fullest detail, including completing your details to show what Mac you are using, what operating system, and what version of the application in question.

I'm sorry if I missed it, but are you the first one to report FF not showing the suggestions?

BTW I also 'fixed' it in Safari by upgrading from 4.0.5 to 5, but I had to revert to 4.0.5 (I don't have 1Password for v5, and I need it daily...), so upgrading to Safari 5 is not a viable option for everyone.

Besides, why on earth do we all experience this with Safari 4? Is it something that Apple has done? Google? or is there some other common thread behind all of us reporting the same issue?

I'm just trying to bring this thread back at the top: exactly how is it possible for Safari to misbehave on our Macs? I mean, it was fine a few days ago. Then for some of us it stopped offering search suggestions through the search box. Is it something we have done in common?

How come Safari works fine on my wife's Acer D150? How come Safari 5 worked fine for me when I upgraded to it? and then it stopped working again once I downgraded back to 4.0.5?

Just from a troubleshooting point of view, I mean...

I wouldn't call it "calved" for me; it's just that I gave it a try installing Glimms, and I have now got search suggestions (plus a few other gizmos which I don't mind having...) and I have no way to verify that Safari itself would offer search suggestions without Glimms, save for uninstalling it and giving it a shot.

Which I might do, if I get the chance from real-life work.

As a side note, I think it's completely bizarre, especially since so many seem to be affected. I know Apple are not (officially) reading this thread, but I would sure appreciate some update for Safari 4 to correct the issue.
