moving the dock

With Big Sur 11.6, how do I move the dock to an external display? It used to be by moving the cursor to the desired monitor/display. Then one day I did it in Display Arrangement by moving a white bar at the bottom of the screen symbol. Now none of those work. Thanks!

Hi ElaSky,

You can temporarily move the Dock to a different display by moving your cursor to that display, and then moving the cursor as far down (or towards where the Dock is normally anchored to, eg. bottom, left side, right side...) as possible. Keep moving it down (as long as it doesn't enter a different display) until the Dock appears.

You can also set a default primary display by going to System Preferences -> Displays, and dragging the top white bar onto the desired primary display.

Thanks for your reply. That worked on one of the two external displays, but not on the other, nor on my laptop's display. At the moment my laptop is set as my primary display.

The two externals are both Dell, one brand new and one 3 years old. It works on the older one!

It's not the end of the world, but it is maddeningly inconvenient when I want to move it for visibility reasons. Now it's stuck on one of the external displays, but I expect when I shut down or sleep it will open back up with the dock back on my laptop screen.

Any additional suggestions appreciated!

Thank you.
