Homepods keep disconnecting from Airplay on MacOS

I was hoping to use dual HomePods as speakers for my Mac. Sometimes my mac can connect and use them as speakers, but most of the time it can't connect, or it disconnects. This is one of the few apple products that "just DOES NOT work". The HomePods are on a wireless network while my Mac is hard wired to the same network. I am hoping there is a simple fix, or that apple will keep improving the integration. If not, it will be the last audio accessory I buy from apple.
