Is this wide-angle photo effect normal?

Hi,

Just upgraded to an iPhone 13 from an X. I took my first ultra wide image this morning, just of a church I pass on the way to work. It wasn't what I was expecting, some sort of effect on the image flattened the textures and have a bit of a halo around the edges. As this is my first time using the ultra wide on an iPhone, is this kind of thing to be expected?

I was on to support last night who performed diagnostics twice, asked me to restore the phone to factory settings. I sent the attached images in, and they agreed they looked odd around the tower and the leaves on the tree on the right, but the chat ended up with them telling me to return the phone.

I just want to know if this looks normal for a wide angle photo taken using the iPhone 13 ultra wide lens.

Thanks in advance.

After sending a few photos, support said "something's not right" and asked me to return the phone for a refund/replacement. They went on to say "would love to let you know the outcome, but I believe it would be internal information".

So, with regret, I'm going to have to send it back for a replacement.

Thanks for your comments though LD150.

If you look at the photo in my initial post, you’ll see what i mean a bit better. If your look at the leaves or the tower they look like the watercolour filter in photoshop.

I tried support last night, and they suggested returning the phone instead of saying if it was normal for the 13 ultra wide to blob stuff out.

Look at the number plate if the second car here.

Firstly, thanks for replying I really appreciate your time. This is what I meant about asking people who know more than me.

From what you've seen, if you're saying that's normal, given the limitations of the device over a camera I'm happy to accept it.

The first picture I posted was ISO 32, f2.4, 1/173s 4032 x 3024. Maybe I'm looking too closely.

I'm not sure on the capabilities, but I don't think I can take RAW on the 13 and I'm not sure if the super-wide is capable of RAW capture.

I'm a week into the phone, and I think I have another 7 days to send it back and perhaps change to the 13 pro.
