Pro 13 Battery Background use , NEWS app, yet Background refresh off. WHY?

Monitoring battery usage and see that the Apple NEWS app is continuing usage in background. I have backbround app refresh turned off. I also have all notifications from the NEWS app turned off in settings. Yesterday I had a chat with Apple Support and he advised to delete app & reinstall.

I did that and also did restart on phone. Even with those steps the background usage continues in battery health. Yet the app isn’t even open.

Any ideas what can be done to stop this?

Maybe I found problem, try it and see if it works.

Your screenshot showed similar battery impact as mine. I had background app refresh off and all notifications for NEWS off. But did learn there was one more area where NEWS was generating activity. I am not sure this was cause but when I saw it checked, I thought ….turn it off and see if it helps. Well I think it did.

I did learn how to turn off ALL NEWS notifications. When you press down on the NEWS icon opens up further, the button then shows Apple NEWS spotlight. I clicked it turning it off re the checkbox.

I also updated to IOS 15.0.1 and now NEWS app is no longer showing background battery activity. So maybe that will help.

apple wanted me to reinstall the ios on it via finder. but I can’t reset up everything like app logins right now. just had to do that when I got new iphone 13

I still see the issue with disabled News app's notifications and no Internet. It's a bug in iOS v15 (v15.0.1 didn't fix it too). Apple has to fix it for us. :(

ios 15.0.1 helped for 2 days. and then the screenshot I posted was from 3rd day.

but you maybe on to something with the notifications. however I would like to get the new notifications so we shouldn’t need to disable notifications for normal battery.
