Why did Apple TV drop PBS programing?

Please speak to PBS and ask them why the dropped support for the Apple TV 3. Perhaps it is time to upgrade to the Apple TV 4K. You can find the fifth generation model on macsales.com for $119 which is vastly superior to your Apple TV 3.

My Apple TV is the 3rd generation model. Apple wasn't responsible for dropping PBS from Apple TV after all. Something happened to PBS. The message PBS just sent me is below. Thanks for your reply.
"On Thursday, September 30, a security certificate from Let's Encrypt expired. This has had major effects across other websites and apps - not just PBS - but we have more information about what that might mean for you if you're using an older streaming device to access our app.
If you use an Apple TV 2/3 Model, these are considered "legacy" Apple TV models compared to newer Apple TV models. Due to their older age, these Apple TV apps are set up a little differently from our other apps.
If you have an Apple TV 2/3 model and you try to open the PBS Video or PBS KIDS Video app, you'll get this error message:
PBS is unavailable. Try again later.
Unfortunately, you won't be able to access the PBS Video or PBS KIDS Video apps on these older Apple TV models for the time-being. We're currently looking into a way to restore those apps.
If you have a compatible Apple Mac, iPhone or iPad, you should be able to use the AirPlay feature to stream the PBS Video app from your smart phone or tablet - or the PBS website on your Mac - to the Apple TV.

wow, there are really too many to mention. However the first thing is they are not limited by the apps you can add. Your Apple TV 3 is very limited and the Apple TV 4Ks offer an App Store so you can download the apps and content you want to watch including PBS and much much much more. They also have 4K content which your TV may have but you cannot receive on your ATV3. They offer gaming so if you like to play games there is a large library, there is also Apple Fitness, and thousands of apps. It is a completely new experience.
