My iMac's speakers sound like rubbish.
It's been going on for a while now, and I've grown somewhat used to it. It only becomes a problem when I try to listen to music.
I just want to know what the problem could be and if it is fixable in any way.
P.S: the distortion happens more with bass tones, if that's helpful.

To be honest, my friend, the problem is that iMac is fifteen years old.
It likely isn't a software issue but hardware.
The easy fix is an inexpensive pair of desktop speakers that you can plug into the speaker port.
And when the iMac finally dies, move the speakers to the Mac that replaces it.
