I got a new MacBook Air last week I haven’t used it in a couple of days so it will not recognize my touch ID it’s asking for a password. I don’t recall setting up a password. How do I reset or get the hint for my password

Dear iCloud team,
Through an accident my old Mac book air model Mac book Air 13” version OS X 10.10.5 got locked in my iCloud account
I tried several times to unlock the device through my iCloud - without any success
Please advice me how do unlock my air book
It requests a 4 digital password which I can’t request from my iCloud - please guide me though the process

How do I reset my password for my MacBook Air. I cannot logon because I do not know my password but it does not give me the option for a hint or reset
