undo disable & delete messages unable to update icloud settings at this time

A couple days ago I ran out of iCloud space so I was going to remove my messages from icloud. Afterward I changed my mind so I went back to click "undo disable & delete messages" so my messages can be restored but every time I try I get the "unable to update icloud settings at this time" error message. I've logged in and out of my icloud account on both my mac and phone, I've used different wifi networks, and i've restarted my phone so I'm not sure what the issue is. I just want to restore my texts before the 30 day waiting period is up and they're permanently deleted.

Hi jncm, We appreciate you reaching out to us. We understand that you are looking to recover your deleted messages.

We’d like to gather additional details that may help us be in a better position to assist you.

Would you please tell us the steps you've taken to remove your messages from iCloud?

Would you please tell us which part of the process did you get an "Undo disable & delete" option?

Based on the other details that you've provided, it does sound like you've disabled Messages in iCloud.

However, disabling Messages in iCloud will not delete messages. Also, if not all messages are saved on your device, it will give you the option to download the messages first.

Based on the details you've provided, it is likely that you do not have the option to recover your messages.

If your messages are not synced through iCloud, it may be possible to recover deleted messages by restoring from a backup that was made from before the messages were deleted.

You can learn more about it in the article below.

About backups for iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch

If you have Messages in iCloud enabled, it is likely that your text messages are not included on your backup.

You can use the article below to check if Messages in iCloud is enabled.

Use Messages in iCloud

Also, if you restore from a backup, it is likely that newer data or information will be lost.

Let us know if you have additional questions. We'd like to make sure that you arrive to a well-informed decision before taking any actions.

Take care!
