Music library suddenly much larger

Guys, if this issues is addressed elsewhere, kindly direct me to it but I need some help. I migrated all information on my iPhone Xʀ to my new iPhone 12 Pro Max. Everything is perfect, except the music library. The original size of the Music library is 112GB on the iPhone Xʀ, my MacBook Pro and my iMac. However, after the transfer form the iPhone Xʀ, the same music library on the iPhone 12 Pro Max is now 166GB. Nothing seems to be duplicated but I checked the first few songs and the file sizes are now much larger. I already had lossless enabled on the iPhone Xʀ so I figured this is not the reason.

Any ideas how I can restore the correctly sized library on the new device?

Hello andrieso,

We see you have some questions regarding the size of your songs after moving to a new device. We'd be happy to help out.

With lossless audio in Apple Music as it pertains to downloaded music, only songs that were downloaded after lossless audio was enabled will download as lossless with the larger file size. Content downloaded prior to enabling that will remain in the original format. So if you happened to have songs downloaded prior to enabling lossless audio, all of those songs would now be downloaded to the new device in lossless, which may account for the library using more storage as a whole.

Some details on that can be found here: About lossless audio in Apple Music

We hope that helps.

Take care.
