Thanks for getting back to us. The feature is only meant to unlock the iPhone: Unlock your iPhone with Apple Watch when you're wearing a face mask or sunglasses

"Unlock with Apple Watch works only for unlocking your iPhone. It doesn't verify your identity for use with Apple Pay, passwords stored in Keychain, or password-protected apps. You can still use these features while wearing a mask, sunglasses, or ski goggles by typing your iPhone passcode or using your Apple Watch for Apple Pay."

Thanks for coming to Apple Support Communities for help today with an iPhone 13 and Face ID. It sounds like you want to know if it can be used with a mask if you don't have an Apple Watch.

The Apple Watch is a requirement. Please see: Unlock your iPhone with Apple Watch when you're wearing a face mask or sunglasses.

If you do have an Apple Watch, be sure you have updated the iPhone to iOS 15.0.1: If Unlock with Apple Watch isn't working on your iPhone 13.
