my iPhone 12 Pro Max has been reporting incorrect storage post iOS 15 update. The problems remains even after updating to 15.0.1.
in the screenshot you can see that the iPhone reports less usage of storage than is actually used. The storage usage has been steadily decreasing since iOS 15.
Do all the updates and you should be good I updated my device to the new IOS 15.1 and now it's good
Yeah. I ended up having to do a backup, wiping, and restoring from backup. Fixed it, but was definitely annoying.
Unfortunately, the only way I found to fix it was to completely wipe my phone and restore from iCloud. Somehow that fixed it. It’s a very annoying solution, but at least it worked.
I’m having the same problem with my iPhone. It shows incorrect storage. (See the attached picture below) I’ve contacted Apple Support and they advised me to “back up my data and then restore it in the factory settings as that could possibly resolve the issue.” They also called it a “Technical Glitch” but, I still haven’t do as I was told because there’s no guarantee that it will fix the problem.
After updating to 15.1, it seems to be resolved.
I tried everything. Ended up having to wipe my phone and restore it. Hasn’t had the problem since. Weird bug.

Were you able to get any help on this? I’m also having issues with my storage. I have deleted most of my videos and photos and deleted majority of my WhatsApp data but still show the exact same amount under the storage settings as before deleting any of the documents and data. Something definitely isn’t adding up.
Appears the iPhone storage add up correctly after the latest update but the amount of storage listed for each app is incorrect.
eg in the iPhone storage it says watsapp 11gb
but on watsapp storage it says 2gb!
This is not fixed in 15.1. I still have 12.4GB of phantom memory being used by Photos "Documents & Data" after trying everything.
I think this is happening because Google Photos deletes the files on my computer - not the native Photos app.
My guess is the geniuses working the Photos apps forgot to wipe out the Photos thumbnail cache when a photo isn't deleted through the app.
This is a serious bug and it should be escalated. If those thumbnails aren't encrypted, Apple could have liability exposure since they are incorrectly telling people that their photos were deleted
Same problem here, I'm running on iOS 15.2 trying the reset multiple times it did not work. Storage information is still incorrect: looks like I have hundred of Gigs available, however when trying to receive photos and videos it says there is not enough space...
There is no way the picture shows the correct information: I've downloaded a lot of 5.3k videos from my GoPro into the Quik app and it does not even show up here!
Surprisingly, the issue didn’t persist into the backup and restoration.
I gave the same problem! I go in and it says my apps is taking up most of my memory. Go out and then back in it says photos are taking up most of the memory. It also changes how much memory each category is taking up. When you add up all the numbers it’s reporting way less than what the system says you are using.
I have the exam same issue since the iOS update, my available storage keep increasing without any reason.
I have an iPhone 12 pro max 128gb
it shows that I have 129gb available. The more frequently I check the storage the faster it increases.
