I am using my iphone to control Netflix on my apple tv because my apple remote is broken. I used to hold the middle button to change the language and subtitles but this function does not seem to be available on the iphone app (control centre)
Any advice?

I had the same problem. Still no fix, but here is a workaround I found out:
You have to download the „ITunes Remote“ App from the App Store and you can connect the app as extra remote to your ATV Gen 1-3. Then in stream just press the button in the down left corner of the screen with the 3 lines and one arrow down. The subtitle menu shows up now.
Here’s how to do it. Swipe up when the movie is playing then tap once on the touch area. You should see the options come up. Select as needed.
Thank you very much!!! This works for me. I lost my Apple TV control and I am controlling my Apple TV through apps. The new Apple TV app remote doesn’t allow me to change the language nor subtitles, but the ITunes remote works perfectly.

Indeed it doesn’t work. And the worse thing is the old app downloaded, that it doesn’t open anymore, I could change the subtitle and language.
I think Apple should certify the usage ability of this remote before block the old one. Now you have none.
Same. I haven’t found a way to change subtitles in Netflix with the integrated remote app. I think it is a bug that has to be fixed. I have an Apple TV 3rd generation.
Any updates to this? I have the same issue, Apple TV gen 1 with the updated remote. It doesn’t even let me use the old Apple remote app I had. Holding down for three seconds doesn’t work

This doesn’t work. I don’t have a swipe area, it’s the new remote with the four directional arrows and a box in the middle.
