installation password?

Can someone help? when i go to install a program i need for school, it prompts me for a password...... i didnt originally set up mac and its a few years old, how do i bypass or change this info :(

what password is required for me to update the Mac OS I'm trying to update software on my MacBook. Before I can update I'm asked for a password. I have tried ever Apple related password to no avail. What password is required? I do not have this issue with my iPhone or iPad.

This is most likely the admin password. You will need the password to install apps.
