MBP 2010 constantly fails to get past half way on startup bar, then crashes

Hello everyone :)

My MBP 2010 has recently developed a problem, whereby when you switch it on, it constantly does not get past roughly the half way point on the startup bar under the Apple logo, followed by then what looks like a load of 'Terminal' type code, that lists it's way down the startup screen & then the computer crashes/goes to black screen, or shuts down...

I've tried all manner of starting it in Safe mode, Recovery mode etc, nothing seems to work... Luckily I have my entire HD backed up to date, but it's of no real use to me, unless I can actually get the laptop to boot up properly in the first place!! Is this hardware/component failure of the mother board, or something wrong with the HD?

Welcome to the Apple Community,

where some of us do our best to help each other troubleshoot.


Wondering if you have enough storage / memory free in order for your Mac's operating system to operate smoothly.

(If you have Apps that run automatically on start-up they may be unnecessarily using memory.)


Guess you need to be able to start up first, in order to check.
