Issues with iMovie and audio

Why will none on my music appear in the audio tab of iMovie? I want to put music to my projects and I cannot figure out how.

If Apple Music were in any way involved in the chain of purchase of the songs, then the songs are DRM (Digital Rights Management) protected and not usable in iMovie. They won't appear in the Audio window of iMovie. Downloading the songs to iTunes will not remove the DRM protection. Further, Apple Music is a subscription service, intended for personal listening and not for use in other apps. Use of Apple Music is dependent on maintaining the subscription. That intention would be defeated if one could download the music to another app and then cancel the Apple Music subscription.

iTunes songs purchased after year 2009 are generally DRM free and can be used in iMovie.
