It is not malware. Older Pulse Secure versions had either an Apple developer signature expire or 3rd party tooling they utilized expired. I believe other Apps such as Citrix Receiver ran into this issue about the same time. Might be a QT library from an external 3rd party.

We just had to upgrade all our Pulse Secure installations across many Mac users at work. We upgraded to Pulse Secure 1.1r.12.

Check with your IT department to upgrade. You need to get the installer from them as they have likely pre-configured it for the company network, etc.

My employer has us use Pulse Secure. A few employees have received that malware message. Pulse Secure is not malware. The reason the message comes up is usually due to a damaged installation. The solution (for our people) has been to remove (uninstall) Pulse Secure, reboot, and then reinstall.

  1. Click on the Pulse Secure icon located on the top-right screen and select Exit.
  2. Open Finder, then Browse to the Applications Folder.
  3. Click and Drag Pulse Secure Icon to Trash. System will ask for user name and password.
  4. Pulse Secure may prompt to save Configuration Click No.

Then, if needed, reinstall Pulse Secure from scratch. Reboot after installing the application. Then install any configurations. Reboot after those installs. For our people, this makes the malware message go away.
