SSL Errors

So after upgrading to iOS15 I am now getting SSL connection errors in maps and music. It is almost made maps unusable at times. In the middle of streaming music with a good connection I all of a sudden get a connection error and it skips to the next song. This did not do this until iOS15.

Greetings EricWhite2,

We understand that you're getting errors while using the Maps and Music apps. We're happy to help look into these concerns with you.

A few good places to start will be verifying that the date and time are correct for your device. Our page Change the date and time on iPhone covers the steps to adjust those settings, and it's typically recommended to have them update automatically.

Other areas to check are your data connection and possible anti-virus or firewall applications. Does this happen on cellular and multiple Wi-Fi connections? Do you use any apps to block pop-ups or other security measures?

We hope this helps!

Welcome back EricWhite2,

The screenshot is appreciated. Are you seeing this error only in the Apple Maps and Apple Music applications? Did you check for VPN or antivirus-type softwares that you may have installed? If you do not get this error in any other apps or functions, try using Delete built-in Apple apps on your iOS 12, iOS 13, or iPadOS device or Apple Watch to remove just those apps and reinstall them from the App Store after verifying that your iOS software is up-to-date. We'd also like to point out that in this screenshot you had a very weak signal, and ask that if the behavior continues that you monitor your signal strength during those errors to see if this is a common factor.

Cheers!

I too have this exact same issue, however, I am still on iOS 14.8.

I first noticed this issue occurring around October 4th.

I am not 100% sure this is an iOS issue, but rather an AT&T / FirstNet issue.

I noticed in your screenshot that you're on 5Ge, which makes me believe you too are on AT&T / FirstNet - can you confirm?

I found that if tether to my work phone (which is on Verizon), I do not have this issue. I also found, if I run a VPN on my personal phone (which is on FirstNet) I do not have this issue either.

As per the suggestions listed here, these things did NOT fix or change anything for me:

  1. Uninstall & Reinstall Apple Maps -- This actually was a terrible idea. I was unable to reinstall Apple Maps because then when I went to re-download Apple Maps from the App Store, I got an SSL error from the App Store -- after it spinned for a while, and acted like it was going to download the app. I had to get on a VPN to actually reinstall this app
  2. Resetting the date & time did nothing. I set it forward a year, rebooted, then set it back to automatic, rebooted. Still nothing
  3. I have confirmed this issue has occurred with various signal strength levels - full bars or less

Please try connecting to a VPN, or perhaps hotspot to a friends phone as a test -- see if this resolves the issue immideatly for you, as it did for me -- if it does, then the next question is, are you on AT&T, FirstNet or perhaps another MVNO powered by AT&T? If this error is specific to AT&T -- I have NO idea how we can get them to resolve it, unless enough of us step up and report the issue.

I have this exact same problem. SSL error in Maps continuously, I also have the error in Apple Music. Definitely an issue coming from IOS 15. Seems like they didn’t fix this on the latest update. Unfortunately I already trie to reinstall the application but the issue persisted.

same on my end

No VPNs

good signal

data and time are correct

no pop blockers or security measures

So I have uninstalled both apps and reinstalled and nothing has changed. When I look up an address it just spins and sits there the. faults out. If I clear the cache and restart the app sometimes it comes right up. Others it does the same thing. It has gotten so bad I have had to download and start using google maps so that I can get directions. Trust me I hate google anything so if you can figure this out I would appreciate it.

Idk if you saw, but I use AT&T iPhone XR currently on iOS 5.0.2 I believe and a vpn is the only way my apple apps work consistently.

i’ve talked to AT&T and they tried network refreshes, gave me a new 5G sim card, and other troubleshooting steps and none of it worked.

They did tell me others have issues but it seems to be an apple software issue since it started with the new iOS update but idk. Seems like pointing fingers
