I’m having a problem with the Apple TV app. No matter what decide I try to update I’m unable to remove shows. I have apps that auto play automatically and then I end up with junk in my up next. I’ve tried removing the junk from my Apple TV, my phone, and my iPad and the junk just pops back up immediately.
You can try Clearing the Play History, which also clears Up Next. Then start over with a clean slate, and with what should be a normally functioning Up Next list.

You can exclude apps from their connection to the Apple TV app, and thereby to Up Next.
If I do that then the apps won't show things in up next and then up next will not be useful. You trimmed that quote down to completely exclude the actual issue:

I need the "remove from up next" function to actually remove from up next.
My issue wasn’t that I don’t want Up Next to do it’s job. My issue was that it wasn’t updating when I would remove things. That eventually resolved on its own. Some issue with the sync across my devices.
Yes, that's the same issue I had too. In my AppleTV 4k box, I removed entries from the "up next", but they would still annoyingly show up in the up next. I had to remove them via the AppleTV+ app on my samsung TV and then it worked and was even reflected on the AppleTV 4k box.
This hella stupid. I had to use a third party appletv app on my samsung tv to remove all these up next. Apple TV box is not working.
