iPad touchscreen not working after 14.8 update

Anyone else have an issue of their iPad touchscreen not working after 14.8 update? I am so angry after leaving the store with no explanation or help. I’ve been using Apple products since they first came out and I few ready to move on!

I tried updating to 15 and that didn’t help. Anyone been able to

solve this issue? I wish Apple would acknowledge this problem!!!!

If you already tried (to no avail) a forced restart of your iPad, using these instructions:

  • On an iPad with a Home button: Press and hold the top (power) button and the Home button at the same time. When the Apple logo appears, release both buttons.
  • On other iPad models: Press and quickly release the volume up button, press and quickly release the volume down button, then press and hold the top (power) button. Only when the Apple logo appears (it might take 15-30 seconds), release that button (ignore all other screens that might appear).

If the issue persists, contact Apple Support, using this link:--> Get Support, or make an appointment and have your device inspected at an Apple Store or AASP (Apple Authorized Service Provider) among this list:--> Apple

– Location Selector. After checking it out, they'll give you all the available options.

This is NOT a new issue.

The intermittent, unresponsive touchscreen issues with higher priced, larger screen iPad Pro and iPad Air models are a well known and well documented here in the iPad support communities.

This affects a still small, but contuning growing minority of random 2017 through present iPad Pro and iPad Air models and its user base.

Now, after 3 years of this nonsense, there is still no confirmed cause and fix/solution from Apple.

NONE!

Getting one of these defective units is very random and is ONLY one of a small handful of issues going on with higher priced, larger screen iPad models that has prevented me from purchasing a new iPad Pro or new iPad Air for the past 2-3 years.

Apple and Apple support have no real fixes or solutions to this issue.

If you have a screen protector on this iPad Pro, remove it as the screen protector makes the touch screen and Pencil experiences worse.

There is absolutely no solution/s to these later iPad Pro/iPad Air touch screen issues.

Apple support can only offer superficial, “band-aid” bandage-like advice/fixes/solutions.

You can contact Apple support, but your iPad Pro/later iPad Air model maybe too old for Apple to offer any type of free or in-warranty iPad replacement and Apple will ONLY offer “band-aid“-like advice/fixes/solutions to this issue.

Apple support is pretty much clueless to this issue and Apple, itself, has never, publicly, acknowledged this issue or issued any type of device recalls.

This is something you probably didn't want to learn, but doesn't change any of the currently known facts.

Yes, I’m having exactly the same problem. did the 14.8 update this morning and then a couple of hours later while using my ipad the touchscreen suddenly stopped working. thought it had just had a temporary freeze so thought I’d try the turn off/on again method but it when trying to turn off, I couldn’t slide the power off; so when I pressed the side button again it said finger print not recognised please input passcode to reactivate, but I couldn’t do that because the touchscreen wouldn’t work! I have just managed to input the password using number keys on my physical keyboard and have just been able to use the touch screen on the web browser but cannot get to the other apps on my Home Screen including email. It is really frustrating.

Noted thanks. I’ve had the device for exactly 12 months and this is the first time this has happened. It’s really bizarre that having just managed to back in using the keypad number keys, the web browsing element is allowing touch screen but nothing else. And also logging into this forum via my icloud account, my fingerprint id did work!

Finger print ID is on the physical button and not the iPad's actual touchscreen.

Like I stated, this is a rare, but long-standing issue that is happening to a random minority of larger screen iPads.

There is NO rhyme or reason to when this intermittent, unresponsive touch screen issue starts to happen.

When it does start happening, it appears that it will never, ever really go away.

Sorry.

Thanks - I might not have explained very well - I am aware the physical button is for the fingerprint id but when I touch it, I get a message on the screen saying it isn’t recognised and to input the passcode on the screen to reactivate it.

Shouldn’t the warranty/guarantee cover this sort of thing? The store I bought it from (a department store rather than an Apple store) includes a 2year guarantee, so I’ll have to dig it out and have a look.
