Since latest iOS update my phone keeps picking up AirPlay control for nearest HomePod speaker

Can I turn this thing off? It’s driving me insane. When one of the HomePods is playing music, as soon as my phone is nearby, the airplay control for that speaker appears on my locked screen. As it happens, the speaker in question is playing white noise in the baby room (I’m on the other side of the wall) and I really don’t want to accidentally change the music or volume in there. I need to disable my phone from doing this. Does anyone how this ‘new feature’ works? I can’t see it on the list for iOS 15.

Player_q,

From your iPhone, go to Settings > General > AirPlay & Handoff. Turn off the switch for Transfer to HomePod.

We understand that your iPhone is connected to your HomePod and plays audio when you're nearby. Are you currently playing audio when this occurs? If you're playing audio on iPhone and the paired device is nearby, it will try to play from that device. You can change the destination of the audio from Control Center. Hi Less,

thank you for your feedback, but that’s not how it happens. I don’t play any audio on my phone and I’m not waving it around the speaker (handing off). My HomePod is playing the music in a different room, with the door of that room closed. As soon as I walk past the room, or am in certain distance from the room, my phone (and my partner’s phone) will switch and show on screen the airplay control for that speaker. I’m not trying to control it, it just appears on its own when the phone’s screen is locked.

It sounds like your HomePods may be set up as a stereo pair. Try unlinking the HomePods and check for this issue with the guidance found in Set up a HomePod stereo pair. If this issue persists, reach out to Apple directly with the link below.

I am having the same issue. This does not help. While I am watching things on my Apple TV it automatically airplays to my HomePod
