This camera is HomeKit friendly. It won’t allow me to add it by optical scan. Then I tried to manually add it. The camera is listed in HomeKit but when I enter the 8 digit code I get an error. I look up the error and it’s too technical for me to understand.

Thanks for that info and for choosing the Apple Support Communities. If we understand correctly, you are unable to setup a HomeKit camera and you get an error message. To help with this, please restart your Wi-Fi router, and then do the steps in the section titled, "If you can't add an accessory" in this Apple resource:
Add a HomeKit accessory to the Home app
It's also a good idea to check your home hub settings, so please see the section titled "If your home hub isn't working as expected" in this Apple resource:
Set up your HomePod, HomePod mini, Apple TV, or iPad as a home hub
