iOS 15 different mail notifications for different accounts

Hi,

Going back to at least iOS 7, I could have a different set of notifications for my personal email account, and my work email account. Am I missing something or is there no way to do this in iOS 15. Yes, you can have different sounds, but now there is just one set of Alerts that covers banners and lock screen. In other words, if I want my personal emails to appear on the lock screen but not work emails, I don't see a way of doing it. This is insane to me, since they have added all these features for limiting/controlling notifications, yet if I don't want my phone to light up constantly with work email while I'm sitting in front of my computer working, there's nothing I can do.

Thanks,

Aaron

I completely agree with everything being said in this forum and I’m shocked Apple hasn’t resolved this via an update patch yet. Why would they take away a quality technology function??? This is very simple, certain email accounts I want banner notifications (like VIP) whereas other accounts I don’t (personal). The functionality was built in prior to iOS 15 and now it’s gone. Super frustrating Apple! Please restore that feature asap!

Hey Aaron,

Welcome to Apple Support Communities. We understand that you would like to have Lock Screen notifications for your personal account but not for your work account.

This is doable in iOS 15 although it does look a bit different. First, go to Settings > Notifications as mentioned in Change notification settings on iPhone. Then, find Mail > Customize Notifications. You'll see each account there and can change how notifications appear for each account on your iPhone.

Have a great day!

Hi,

Thanks for the reply, but I don't see how I can have different alerts per account, since there's only one Alerts panel that can be toggled on or off under Customize Notifications. For example, let's say I have it set to show on the lock screen:

When I go to customize, I only have the option to toggle this alert on or off. If I have it toggled off for my work account (because I don't want lock screen notifications), then I lose the sound/vibration option, and only have an option for badges:

If I toggle alerts on, then I get the sound/vibration I want but am stuck with lock screen notifications that I don't want:

You used to be able to customize the entire set of badges, sounds, and alerts per account, but now there is only one general alert section, so I don't see how it's possible anymore.

Thanks,

Aaron

Hi,

What is even more frustrating: I used to have different kinds of alerts for my personal and work mail accounts (same as Aaron), and it worked perfectly well for me, even on iOS 15, until these Christmas holidays when I on purpose turned off the notifications for my work mail account.

So, as soon as I got back to work I suddenly realized the old notification style cannot be reverted. I checked every single setting. Indeed, it was so useful to receive job-related sound notifications with no alerts popping up on the lockscreen.

Still not sorted. And extremely frustrating. I have 3 work accounts and it’s a nightmare with notifications popping. Also when I am at work I tend to turn off personal email which is now popping up so I have to keep the phone away from desk or keep the screen down especially if I am in meetings. I don’t understand why Apple has this compulsion to fix things that ain’t broken?!

This was still working for me until I got a new watch and synced it and all the sudden my mail notifications were completely reset and I got thrown into this nightmare world. I used to be able to use the badges to make sure I didn’t miss any urgent issues at work and now I have 14,034 unopened emails. I turned them off because it’s useless to me now. I guess Apple wants me to switch to the Outlook app?
