I need help restoring Firefox from a Time Machine backup. I know which files I need but I don't know in which folders they are located. Can one do a search in TM?

In doing so I must have done something wrong because although I restored my laptop and use of Microsoft software, I now can't back up to the Time Machine nor are there any old backups available for my laptop. Why isn't "restore" an option on my Time Machine backup files? Only "Cancel" is clickable. The files on my 2016 MacBook Pro 15" are backed up in Time Machine on an external drive. I can see and open individual files, but I can't "restore" the entire backup. The options are "Cancel" or "Restore", but restore is grayed out and is not clickable. What good is a backup if I can't restore from it? I am running Mojave 10.14.6. I cannot upgrade this computer past that operating system or my Adobe Creative Suite applications won't work, so please don't suggest that I update. Not updating is intentional. I do install security updates on this computer. I have another computer that I use for other purposes that I keep updated - I understand the benefits of updating. Thank you!

extra usb hard drive time machine back up recover I backed up my MacBook to a USB external hard drive so as to update my OS from El Capitan to Big Sur using the time machine. I followed the process in where it asked me to erase all files, as I had already backed them up. Now that I am done and have Big Sur up and running, I reconnect the USB external hard drive but can't find where my backed-up files are so as to reinstall them in my Mac Book. Can any body help me ? Thank you
