What to Do:
Sometimes changes are made to the system and then settings (i.e. for the microphone) become manipulated, technically. So, reset both on your Mac.

- Create a New User, and See if that Works.
If so, then it is something installed/configured on your current user that should not be. So, transfer everything over to the new user, and then trash user. You should be good from there

Hold Down the Shift Key upon boot. Once at the login screen, release shift. See if it all now works. In Safe Mode, only necessary items load (i.e. the caches), and new preferences are set aside.
If nothing above works, then...
Nothing would be lost, it's just that sometimes changes are made to your system, and then then processes become corrupted, technically.
