Wifi usage while airplane mode is on.

How is it possible to receive calls on airplane mode but connected to a hotel’s wifi? I have my phone on airplane mode and a number called my cell phone. I’m receiving text messages too. I’m connected to a hotels wifi but my phone is on airplane to prevent receiving charges for incoming text or phone calls. I expect to only receive iMessages since I’m connected to the hotel’s wifi. I don’t want international fees but I continue to receive calls & texts from people who DO NOT have iPhones. Verizon could not help.

Please answer my question. Do you have Wi-Fi Calling enabled? If you do then you can make and receive calls and send & receive SMS over Wi-Fi. Go to Settings/Cellular and check to see if Wi-Fi calling is enabled.

This works out well, because you are not charged for calls and texts over Wi-Fi calling even when roaming.
