Problem with conversion currency through Spotlight and Calculator app

Hello!

I have a problem with converting currency through Spotlight and Calculator app.

Calculator converts currencies at the old rate of 2012. And Spotlight doesn't convert currency at all.

I use macOS High Sierra 10.13.6 (17G66) on a MacBook Pro 2017.

Unfortunately OS update is not for me. I can't use higher macOS versions because I work with high consuming apps and I barely can use them on higher OS. Also I tried to launch my MacBook in a Safe Mode or from a different user account, it didn't work out.

I would really like to continue use all the functions that was delivered with my Mac. I need your help. Maybe I can change something in a Calculator .plist file or use some terminal command to force update synchronisation with finance.yahoo.com? Would appreciate any thoughts how to solve this problem

I just attempted to open the Calculator > Convert > Currency… panel in Calculator on macOS 10.13.6 (17G14042), and on the first try, it crashed, and all subsequent attempts when clicking that menu selection simply are ignored without the app crashing.

My best guess is that the link that Apple was using to get currency updates from Yahoo! in the Calculator app was changed, and no longer can contact the Yahoo! financial server. As High Sierra went out of support in Fall 2020, this would not have been fixed by Apple, and there will be no fix with the Apple Calculator on High Sierra now.

However, once Apple no longer supports an operating system, anything can go wrong from expired security certificates to Yahoo! changing the connectivity scheme to their finance server. These are usually issues that Apple simply cannot fix as they lack control over these external dependencies, and their resources are tied up in the current and future operating system efforts.

Hello. Thank you for your guess!

I had the same thought, something changed with the finance Yahoo service. I tried to copy files that contents "finance" or "yahoo" keywords from Catalina OS calculator to my High Sierra, but it didn't help.

I found many complaints online about this issue with the currency converter, but still didn't find a solution. People faced this problem on El Capitan, Sierra and even Mojave (before 003 security update)
