My watch is still saying it is connected to my phone even while using airplane mode. This means that Bluetooth must still be on in airplane mode?

After the most recent software update, mu watch is still saying it is connected to my phone even while using airplane mode. This means that Bluetooth must still be on in airplane mode? I previously used airplane mode to utilize some features of the watch while limiting my on-skin EMF radiation exposure, and only connecting the watch to internet and my phone periodically. Previously my watch would show to be disconnected from my phone while in airplane mode. If I can't turn off Bluetooth anymore with airplane mode I might be throwing my watch in the trash ... which is highly disappointing.
