Built-in Camera of MacBook Air M1

Last couple of weeks ago I purchased a new MacBook Air M1 (Sep 2021).

The built in camera of this new MacBook Air M1 has one of the worst camera performance. The camera that comes with a $300 Chromebook/Windows machine seems to be much decent. The FaceTime and Zoom Calls are worse, with blurry and faded image. An almost decade intel chip based iMac 2011 with similar spec camera has better performance. It is a complete shock to see such a worse camera performance especially for current generation MacBook Air, not sure if it is due to glitchy neural engine algorithm/ image enhancing software or a cheap faulty camera. Even a 2016 HP Windows laptop which come with face pattern recognition and depth sensor that helps unlock the system much fast and performs better with online meetings.

Return or Get Serviced:

If you just purchased this within the last 14 days, then you can return it. Elsewise, get it serviced.

Perhaps this is a Faulty Device?:

Note that you have a one-year, out-of-the-box, limited-warranty with this. So, if it is covered under warranty, then see if you can get the screen replaced. Being faulty, it likely would be nothing on you. Ask Apple Support for a new screen.

  • Apple Contact Us:

--- Contact Us - Choose Locations

--- Proceed from there as Necessary

NOTE: Due to the Coronavirus Pandemic, calls are taking a bit linger to get through. And, that makes sense, because many are at home working out-of-the-house or are taking classes over-the-web, this they have more time on their hands to contact Apple Support. So, it might take a bit to get through to Apple Support. But, just stay on the line, and someone will be with you :)
