mbox import

I've moved from an Macbook Pro running Office for Mac to an iMac where I'd prefer to use all the native Apple applications. I want to import my Outlook data into Mail. Seen some articles where you can just drag the mailbox to the desktop and then import it into Mail. This works as described, but the resultant mail items have a bunch of information in the beginning of the message that wasn't visible/present in the Outlook message. It looks like "header" data or some type of metadata, but it makes the email rather difficult to read, apart from having to scroll past all this which isn't part of the message content.

Did I do something wrong in the import? Does anyone else exerience this?

Welcome!

Outlook used to have an "Export..." command. Did you find that? When Mrs AJ transitioned from Outlook's predessor for Mac, Entourage, (same command structure as Outlook basically) to Apple Mail, we used the export command in Entourage to create a file on the Desktop. We the did Import from Apple mail and had no issues, Even the custom mailboxes in the sidbar were maintained and, better yet, gibberish free!

As MS Office is not an Apple product and there are not as many Office users active here as one would think, I believe you should also ask in Microsoft's Office forums if the above does nt do the trick.. MS Office questions posted in Apple’s forums tend to linger a long time before getting any kind of helpful response.

The only trick is limiting views to Mac issues, and that’s easy.

That will display this page header:

1) If needed, use the “Office Topic” pull-down to select your Office app.

2) Limit answers to Mac topics with the “Office Sub-topic” pull-down.

3) If needed, use the “Show Filters” option to further narrow the results.

Everyone there is both an Office user and a Mac user, something you can't say about Apple's forums. I believe you will find the contributors there knowledgeable and very helpful.

Hi Allan

Thanks so much.

Outlook for Mac allows me to export and creates an .olm archive. It's basically that or the mbox file.

Importing the mbox file has the issues I explained in my initial post. There's not an option [that I can see] to import the .olm file - it's not "selectable" when I select the other import option in Mail.

I can basically either import mbox, or import "Apple mail". In the latter case selecting the .olm file is not possible. It sounds like that was not Mrs AJ's experience, so if I have misudnerstood you, please let me know.

I'll try the other forum that you suggested also. Was not expecting this to be difficult at all.
