Can I update my MacBook Pro (13-inch, Mid 2012) to High Sierra?

Keep getting unsafe warning when launching Thera-Link.com encrypted therapy site with my psychologist, who received email directions for his patients to fix the problem by upgrading older OS to High Sierra. Is it true the my MacBook Pro won't be able to update to High Sierra. My MacBook Pro: OS X El Capitan 10.11.6 MacBook Pro (13-inch, Mid 2012) 8 GB 1600 MHz DDR3 Storage 836.85GB free of 1 TB SATA DISK. Do I have delete certificates & clear cache & cookies before attempting to update system? Will updating OS really fix the problem? The warning is frightening indicating my laptop could be hacked, when I select the Advanced workaround - Chrome launches the site with red warning using unsafe web address. I pay my monthly rent via SSL and SSAE Certified Secure called Entrada - and the warning appears - don't want my bank account to be hacked. My clock is set correctly. Chrome is up to date Version 94.0.4606.81 (Official Build) (x86_64) From Keychain Access app.thera-link.com certificate Expires 11/20/2021. I don't use Safari because the OS 10.11.6 has no updates for Safari. Thanks for any help - as this is urgent. I use my laptop for work and weekly therapy. Thank you for any help you can post.

First thing is you r mac is not at risk.

The simple explanation is that certificates that let you connect to websites expired on the 30th of September 2021.

There is a way to download new valid certificate and install them to your keychain and you will then be able to carry

on using your mac as you have done before.

I can give you instructions on how to do that if you want.

The other option is to upgrade your macs OS to macOS High Sierra 10.13.6 or higher, the browsers that work

with newer OS's have more modern security protocols.

A MacBook Pro from 2012 can upgrade to either macOS High Sierra 10.13.6, macOS Mojave 10.14.6 and/ or macOS Catalina 10.15.7.

As your mac can upgrade to the newer OS's like macOS Mojave 10.14 and macOS Catalina 10.15,

I would recommend you upgrade to macOS High Sierra 10.13 first.

For High Sierra, Mojave or Catalina,

Open Safari and click on this link,

How to get old versions of macOS – Apple Support

Go to the Download OS section and click on the OS you want to install.

Before upgrading make a full back up of your Mac.

Check that third party apps you use have updates available for the new OS.

https://roaringapps.com

Check that your printers/ scanners etc have updated drivers and software available for the new OS.

Connect your mac to your router via cable rather than rely on WiFi.

Do not use your mac while it is downloading

and do not use any other devices that share the same internet connection.

If the App Store says ‘Open’ then it is detecting a previous download of the install app

go to the Applications folder locate Install macOS ******.app.

Move it to the Trash, empty the Trash.

Restart, click on the link again, the App Store should say ‘Get' or 'Download'.

If you are considering upgrading to Catalina be warned it does not support 32bit apps.

Your Mac is probably running 32bit apps and these will need to be updated to 64bit apps,

some updates may be free, some may be paid. Use this free app to discover which apps you have

are 32bit, https://www.stclairsoft.com/Go64/ then contact the developers of the software to see

if they are offering 64bit updates.
