iCloud Shared Albums not Sending Invites (iOS 15)

As many people have posted before, I can receive invites from others but am unable to send invites to Shared Albums I create. Nobody receives the invites in any way whatsoever to an email or phone number associated with their Apple ID. This issue persists with iOS 15.0.1 and the links like “how to use Shared Albums”, “issues with Shared Albums”, etc. that many Apple specialists/representatives have been posting are not helpful. The resend invite button can be tapped but doesn’t seem to do anything and certainly doesn’t send an invite.

Why can’t I send people invites to Shared Albums I create?

Hello Lon3lyWanderer,

After reviewing your post, it seems like you created an album and you want to share it, but no-one is receiving the invitation.

It looks like you have already done some troubleshooting to solve this issue. If you have already followed the steps available you may need to contact Apple Support directly.

If you create a new shared album do you still have the same inviting issue?

If you create an album with different photos, can an album be shared?

Just to make sure we're covering the basics, are you following these steps to send the invites?

"Invite more people

  1. In Albums, select a shared album that you created.
  2. Go to the People tab.
  3. Tap Invite People.
  4. Enter the names of people that you want to share this album with.
  5. Tap Add."

"I sent email invitations to my Shared Album, but not everyone received one.

Try these steps:

  1. Ask the invitees to check their junk or spam email folders for the invitation.
  2. Send the invitation again. An invitee might not get the message if their mailbox is full, or if there's a filter that prevented the invite from being delivered.
  3. If they didn't get the invitation, ask the invitee for another email address that you can send the invitation to. You can also send the invitation to the phone number that they use for Messages.
  4. Ask the invitee if they've ever received an invitation, and if they might have unsubscribed from Shared Albums emails. They can use the steps below to get email invitations again.

If they still don't get the invite, contact Apple Support for help."

I never found a specific method for sending email invitations, but eventually it all just started working out of nowhere. Invites have been received and accepted by the people, so that’s good now. However, I added (after everyone accepted the invitations) 130 total photos/videos to this album. They all appeared in the shared album as expected, but a few hours later they randomly have started to disappear from this album one at a time. It continued until only 72 photos remained and has now appeared to have stopped.

Any explanation for what’s going on here? My shared album activity even says “you added 72 photos to this album” when I definitely added more than that.

Hey Lon3lyWanderer,

Thanks for the update. Since the invitations were sent and accepted, the album only added 72 of the 130 you tried to add.

Are you able to add the 58 remaining photos again?

Are you able to add different photos, and do they stay in the album?

Were these photos taken on the device?

Depending on the format of the photos, they may not be supported with shared albums.

"Shared Albums support these image formats:

  • HEIF
  • JPEG
  • RAW*
  • PNG
  • GIF
  • TIFF"

Are you connecting to Wi-Fi or cellular data when you tried to add the photos? You can test another connection and try adding again.

"Note: To use Shared Albums, your iPhone must be connected to the internet. Shared Albums work over both Wi-Fi and cellular networks. Cellular data charges may apply. See Connect iPhone to the internet."

I'm having same issue regarding shared photo album invites and I have reviewed all the help docs. My wife and I have shared photo albums with each other in the past successfully. She created a new shared album yesterday and again today and tried to share it with me. I never received the invitation. As a test, I created a shared album today and tried sharing it with her. She never received the invitation.

Sounds like the same issue I’ve been experiencing. If you haven’t already, try resending the invites one more time and give it a day or so… That seemed to help me a little, but I suppose it could’ve been a coincidence.

Update as per my last message: The photos I add to my Shared Album remain in the album now, it must’ve been a bizarre bug removing the photos that resolved itself.

All the pictures I am adding were taken on the device. Unfortunately putting all 58 back will be a pain because it was deleting random photos from the album (not in any specific order) and Shared Albums specifically seem to have no sort of block against duplicates being added. Hopefully they all stick around this time and the issue goes away. I just re-added a few and will update on whether or not they remain.
