Spam problem on iPhone — Advice?

I recently got what clearly seemed to be a bogus text from AT&T (AT&T is my provider)

I went to delete it (probably should have left it alone) and inadvertently must have clicked the **** thing. It started processing....something. Immediately tried to delete the text. Not possible. So I powered down.

When I came back, the "message" is sitting atop the other messages. (see pic)

At this point, phone still works. And I can access other texts. Even get new ones. But have no idea how to get rid of this message. If I power down again, return, and then click Messages, I am greeted with black for some ten seconds. Then the messages return, just as you see in the picture.

Any ideas what is going on?

Suggestions?

iPhone 7, iOS 14

my guess is that you accidentally 'pinned' that text message rather than deleting it?

That should be what it means when a text is parked up top like that.

You should be able to tap and hold to get a menu, select unpin or delete..

My phone doesn't quite have the same look, but you might get the same options if you tap edit in the upper left?
