Apple TV IOS Remote app cannot control TV volume

I have a 4th gen Apple TV I upgraded by purchasing the 2021 aluminum Siri remote. It’s hooked to a an LG 55” TV from 2013 with “SimpLink”.

The on-off feature works like a charm on both Siri remote and IOS app.

The Siri remote also handles volume (via IR) well but I can’t configure the SimpLink to accept volume control from the IOS app and I've kinda accepted that it isn’t possible.

please tell me I’m wrong and if not, do you have first hand experience configuring any TV to accept volume control via the IOS app? If so, what brand/model?

Issue SOLVED. That speaker icon is no longer greyed out…,

I purchased the 2nd gen Apple TV 4K (2021j and a new LG 65CX OLED (2020 with webOS 5.0) because… well it was time to upgrade my LG 55LA7400 LED HD TV…. The new TV has 4 HDMI 2.1 ports and eARC of course. The only thing left from the old configuration was the HDMI cable connecting the Apple TV to the TV…. and THAT seems to have been the main culprit.

I was about to run out and splash on a HDMI Ultra High Speed cable to see if it would make a difference… but I rummaged through my spare cables cardboard bin first and found that every HDMI cable I had, had a different description on the plug. Most just said HDMI so I presume they are 1.4. Two cables had High Speed written on them and one added “with Ethernet”, these are both 2.0 and both WORK.

I frankly thought all HDMI cables were similar; lesson learned! But I love my new, larger 4K OLED TV and in a roundabout way, it was the desire to be able to control TV volume with my IOS app that started the search,,,

wonderful to be able to control from my iPad, phone and Apple Watch. Very cool
