My aunt gave me her old iphone. She already removed the device from her apple id account but when i turned it on her account was still on the activation lock. How can i remove the activation lock.

My aunt gave me her apple id and password but her phone was notified that someone was using her account outside the use so she told me to stop cuz apple might lock her phone for security reasons. I was actually able to create my apple id account but when I powered off my phone and I opened it again it needed my aunt's account again to activate. Is there a way to activate my phone without my aunt's account? I tried to request for an activation lock removal but it required proof of purchase but my aunt threw it away. I only have the box and phone. Can someone please help me? I'd really appreciate it. Thank you.

If Apple has refused you the removal service then the only other way to remove the lock is to recover the information used to set it.

You can check with Apple but my understanding is the receipt has to be the one issued by Apple or an authorized reseller to a named person. If you are not the person on the receipt then you may need legal documentation about coming into ownership. For example, in the case of inheriting a phone this will be a court order. Apple is really clamping down on unlocking devices unless you really can prove you are a rightful owner. It is otherwise too easy for a thief to steal a phone and then try to get Apple to unlock it. Apple decides what documentation they are willing to accept and they don't say what it is on that unlock web page so unless I put one of my devices (all of which were simply given to me by relatives as hand-me-downs so I cannot prove I own them) in activation lock I can't check.

Hello thank you for contacting Apple Community

i was just wondering on the slip that was thrown away if it was a Debit Charge, Credit Card Charge, Apple Pay, Cash, by Check.

if it’s any of the these except cash, they can be tracked down this way you can get the copy of the receipt and you will be all set

I hope this help
