IPhone 12 screen protector problem

I saw a whole string about the iPhone 12 having a temperamental touchscreen in lock mode from about a year ago, but I just got a new 2 mini and it’s still an issue but only with a screen protector on. The problem is with the screen not always responding when in lock mode, starting up the camera or flashlights is temperamental and answering a call almost impossible. The phone icon responds as expected when swiping to answer, but when I let go it just slides back rather than connecting the call.

I’ve tried a couple of tempered glass screen protectors, but had the problem with both. Is this still a common problem with iPhone 12? If anyone had had this, what was your solution - upgrading from iOS 14 to 15; using a specific glass protector; using a film one, or using no protector at all?
