Transfer HDR video from iPhone 13 Pro IOS 15 to Windows 10

I have recorded a bunch of videos on an iPhone 13 Pro, and they look great in HDR on the phone. However, when I transfer them on my Windows 10 PC, the videos lose the HDR information. They are supposed to be h.265 10bit, but instead they are converted to h.264 8bit.

I have searched for a solution online, and I someone suggested to check the "Keep original" option in the Photos app. However, this doesn't seem to make any difference, the transferred files are still being converted to 8bit. Is this a bug of IOS 15? Is there a workaround?

Hi RikkTheGaijin,

Thanks for reaching out about transferring videos and their resulting quality. We can help with this.

Which program are you importing the videos into, iTunes or to your Photos app?

If you take a look at the bottom of this section of the article, it gives you steps to choose the format they are imported with. Check to see if this is selected.

"Import to your Windows PC

You can import photos to your PC by connecting your device to your computer and using the Windows Photos app:

  1. Make sure that you have the latest version of iTunes on your PC. Importing photos to your PC requires iTunes 12.5.1 or later.
  2. Connect your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch to your PC with a USB cable.
  3. If asked, unlock your iOS or iPadOS device using your passcode.
  4. If you see a prompt on your iOS or iPadOS device asking you to Trust This Computer, tap Trust or Allow to continue.

Then, visit Microsoft's website to learn how to import photos to the Windows Photos app in Windows 10.

If you have iCloud Photos turned on, you need to download the original, full resolution versions of your photos to your iPhone before you import to your PC. Find out how.

When you import videos from your iOS or iPadOS device to your PC, some might be rotated incorrectly in the Windows Photos app. You can add these videos to iTunes to play them in the correct orientation.

If you're having trouble importing photos from your iOS or iPadOS device to Windows 10, try these steps:

  1. On your iOS or iPadOS device, open the Settings app. Tap Camera, then tap Formats.
  2. Tap Most Compatible. From now on, your camera will create photos and videos in JPEG and H.264 formats.

Yes, I’ve seen the same reply on similar topics, unfortunately it doesn’t work. I have tried three different methods: 1) from the device list, right click on iPhone and “Download Photos and Videos”. 2) transfer directly from the iPhone folder 3) using the windows 10 Photos app.

None of the methods worked. The files are transferred but they are converted in 8-bit video. I have the “Keep original “ option ON in my iPhone Photo settings.
