How to sign in to 3rd party mail clients with iCloud custom domain email address

I recently moved my domain email address to iCloud as they now started offering email hosting with iCloud+.I'm trying to use this email with 3rd party mail clients rather than the default apple mail app. Any idea how to do that?

It seems that you can use your @iCloud e-mail with an app specific password to login to a third-party mail client on Mac.

If your custom email domain is set as the main one on your iCloud Mail you'll receive the messages from your custom domain email on the third-party e-mail app even if you're authenticated with your @iCloud e-mail.

This is not ideal at all, but that's the only way I made it work.

If there's a way to sign in with app specific passwords + custom email domain directly, please let us know.

Use an App Password:

Try Creating a new App PasswordYour App Password may need to be created, then used - something typical after update installations. You would log in using that password, rather than your email password. For instance, here Is the site for gmail: Sign in with App Passwords - Google Account Help - Google

J0naz,

Thanks for letting us know. It appears you want to set up your custom iCloud domain address in a third-party app on your MacBook Air. The previous article provided shows how to set it up in the Mail app only, along with other devices where you can set up your custom iCloud domain address. It appears that setting up a custom iCloud domain address might not be available in other third-party apps yet.

Take care.

Password for which eMail?

  • Apple?: If you are referring to your iCloud eMail, then it would be the password that you log into these forums with, given it is the same account.
  • Other?: Contact tour eMail provider, asking them for changing the password.

Where to Go:

  1. See Here: Add and Manage eMail Aliases for iCloud Mail on iCloud.com - Apple Support
  2. As it Reads: "After you set up a primary iCloud Mail address, you can create up to three @icloud.com email aliases on iCloud.com."

Hi J0naz,

It appears you want to use your custom email with iCloud+ in elsewhere besides the Mail app on Apple devices. If you're wanting to use your email on an Windows computer, check out the steps below, from this article: Set up a custom email domain for iCloud Mail on all your devices - Apple Support

"Receive mail from custom domain addresses on your Windows computer

  1. If you don’t already have it, get the iCloud for Windows app. See the Apple Support article Download iCloud for Windows.
  2. On your Windows computer, open the iCloud for Windows app.
  3. Select Mail, Contacts, and Calendars, click Apply, then follow the onscreen instructions.
  4. To view your mail, open Microsoft Outlook. In the folder list, click the disclosure triangle to the left of your iCloud email account.

If you’re having trouble with iCloud Mail in Outlook, see the Apple Support article If you can’t add iCloud Calendars, Mail, or Contacts to Outlook."

We hope that helps. Best wishes.
