Visual voicemail on a T-mobile nvmo fails after a certain number of messages reached

I am using Teltik, that often identifies itself as Mintmobile, and leases lines off T-mobile. Alas, my iPhone 6S+ doesn't always register visual voice mails when someone leaves me a message. I have to call my own number to verify there aren't any new messages sometimes. Is there an app, that has a better tie in with carrier voicemails than the one built-in to the iPhone that has no limit to the number of messages it can download from it? My space on the iPhone has over 12 GB free, so I know it isn't that. Sometimes when I delete a message on the carrier voicemail, it will redownload the messages from the carrier side, but not always. I'm not always some place where I have three isobars of signal, and have even tried to enable WiFi dialing.

Voicemail is a carrier feature.

If you are having issues with it, contact your cellular carrier.

I have, and they don't have any really good advice that I can confirm works repeatedly.

Lately I'm getting messages again, but the fact it stopped randomly has me wondering what is going on.

Do you know if visual voicemail will hold onto messages not on the carrier's server?

I know I can extract them from iPhone backups.

All carrier voicemail has a limit on number of messages, usually 40. When you delete a visual voicemail it goes to “deleted messages”. this does not remove it from the carrier’s server. You need to remove messages from "deleted messages” to free up space on the carrier’s server.

No, voicemail on your phone syncs to the carrier’s server, so if it is deleted from the server it will also be deleted from the phone and vice versa.Your backup may contain messages that were deleted from the phone, however.
