stuck when upgrading to bigsur

I was updating my macbook from catalina to big sur, and i encountered this problem as you can see in the picture.


It says on the number that the download is completed but not yet on the loading bar. And nothing is happening.


What should I do? It’s been like this for hours now and I’m afraid that if I restart the laptop or click the ‘x’ i will lose the download or cause some damage to the system. If you have any advice on this please let me know.

Quit the System Preferences


If the full installer downloaded it will be sitting in your Application folder "Install macOS Big Sur.app



If you made your current back up, you can launch the installer like any other applications.


Big Sur states that you will need 35.5 GB of free storage when upgrading from High Sierra or newer, and 44.5 GB when upgrading from an older versions.
