Safari "Phantom" tabs. Disappearing tab in safari

Hi,

On the screenshot below you'll see the website tabs open in Safari Version 15.0 (16612.1.29.41.4, 16612)

What you don't see is in that blank space where a tab should be is a "Phantom" tab that I can't access or close. It was playing audio and I had no idea where it was coming from but the blank tab space seemed unusual so when I close the "start page" tab the phantom tab reappeared and I was able to interact with it again. This doesn't seem like expected behaviour.

There have recently been many reports of a broad range of new problems on this support site about the latest release of Safari v15. It is included in the downloads for Big Sur and Catalina. If you are experiencing these problems, you can use another browser such as Firefox or Chrome and they will work for you until a newer version of Safari is released.

I have read here that Apple's support people have a link to reinstall Safari and that doing so often fixes the problem. You might check with them.

Hi,

No solution I'm afraid. I haven't really been searching very hard. I actually followed the suggestion above to "use another browser such as Firefox or Chrome"

After installing Firefox for the first time in about 10 years I must say it's like being reacquainted with an old friend. Probably not very useful for the issue at hand though. 🤷🏼‍♂️
