I can’t delete apple music documents and data it takes 2 GB from my mobile storage.
I deleted the app and it’s documents, what happened is a 30 MB deleted (the app size only).
In previous versions I could select which songs to delete. But with this new version 15.0.1 it lags to empty my storage. and it kept 2 GB of documents and data.
This has been bothering me for a long time; even with no music on my iPad and the app itself offloaded, there was 2.75 GB of storage being used up by the Music app (per Settings > General > iPad Storage). I found a solution, using iMazing as suggested above. Here's what I did:
-- Remove all music from iPad
-- Offload the Music app itself (you cannot delete it)
-- Plug in iPad, let it backup and sync
-- Run iMazing
-- in iMazing, go to iPad > File System
-- Go to Media/iTunes_Control/iTunes/Artwork/
-- In there are two folders, Caches/ and Originals/.
Both of therm have hundreds/thousands of files.
-- Delete contents of both Caches/ and Originals/
(Select all the folders in them, right-click, delete)
Voila. I got my 2.75 GB back. And when I re-loaded the Music app it a) worked correctly, and b) did not use of 2.75 GB of artwork cache. I did this with the free version of iMazing, which is pretty...amazing. Kudos to the developers.
I reported this bug to Apple through official channels in fall 2021 and never heard of a fix or resolution. This is my fix. YMMV of course.
If Backup and Restore is the only answer to remove multiple gigabytes of phantom data, then there is clearly a failure with how iOS handles this situation.

Don't bother calling Apple tech support either. The only solution they provided was to reset and wipe the phone. For those of us still using older phones, this is a major storage killer. Hopefully they can fix it soon.
Same here, but its 67gb lmao, i already “offloaded” all the music too and its showing in my apple music app as if it wasnt downloaded. so, is it gonna download again when i hit download or use the 67gb of music on my phone lol
I also have this issue. Removed all my downloads from Music, but left with over 7gb that will not delete. Tried deleting the Music app but it does not remove it entirely and the 7gb of data remains. A fix (other than to restore - no thanks, lots of other data to restore such as audiobooks when I do that) would be appreciated.
More manageable maybe for you. But why is there still 1.16 gb left? Maybe when you stream there is files that don’t delete. Prior to iOS 15 you could switch off your library in Settings->music. Not any more.
I have the same situation on my iPad Air with iOS 15.2. Music is taking up 8.82G, and I can't delete. I removed the music app, and installed again, but did not change. I signed off from iCloud, rebooted, and signed in again, as suggested, but it did not change.
My iPad is 64G model and it is often nearly full, and this ghost 8.82G is really frustrating!
This has taken up 15GB of my storage and there is no way for me to get rid of this unused data. It is really frustrating to have such a large chunk of my storage space stolen like this. Its really disappointing that Apple hasn’t made a fix for this yet.
This is the screen you should get to. To delete the individual data and document. You can delete it all in one go at the top, and this seems to automatically delete the app.
I don’t actually know how Adele got to the top there, never been a fan. Lol
If what @urbansmash says is true, those 30 sec downloads are entirely unnecessary and would be bad architecture/coding by Apple.
Just think about it, Music already today proves it can play songs quick and instantly even if 30 seconds of every song haven’t been stored locally on the device. This happens for ex. any time Music plays a radio station or infinity list, because those songs are determined dynamically.
Also, Spotify doesn’t do this so it cannot be technically necessary.
Deleted re-installed and deleted again. Many times. It still shows up on my new iPad under General > iPad Storage with 9.59 GB of data and nothing for the app. Because the app itself is gone. Insane.
