Restoring iPad software (error code 410) S.O.S. !!!!!!

Hello Apple. Why is it so time consuming, nerve wrecking, hair pulling, stuck and optionless experience to restore iPad's software? This is not the first time, year. This has been happening for over 5-6 years now. Why Apple does not fix this **** issue? We know, we get it, Apple products are the best! But c'mon now!!! How about getting our of the ego and try looking into the customer world.

I have been messing with (don't want to loosen my tongue here) with my daughter's iPad for the last two days now. She has misplaced her passcode and we are at the point where I am restoring her iPad to the factory settings. I just cannot do it. I have tried all the suggestions I have gathered from all forums: used brand new Apple original cable, used after market cable, disabled all my firewalls on my PC (win 10). None of the solutions helped at all. I am in need for a miracle!!!

Apple, please help!

Al.

In my time contributing to this community, yours is the first report that I can recall the cites error #510. This error does not, to my knowledge, appear in Apple’s support documentation. Whilst it will not directly help with this specific error, here is a link to the full list of error codes published by Apple:

Your notes are unclear as to what you have tried, or the process that you have actually followed in restoring the iPad. So, starting at the beginning…

If your iPad is disabled, or you have forgotten your iPad passcode, you have no alternative other than to follow this process:

If you’ve forgotten the passcode on your iPad, or your iPad is disabled – Apple Support

You’ll need access to either a PC (with iTunes installed) or a Mac (with iTunes or Finder - as appropriate for the installed version of MacOS).

Download and use iTunes for Windows – Apple Support

Update to the latest version of iTunes – Apple Support

Use of a PC or Mac is unavoidable. If you don’t have access to a suitable computer of your own, that of a helpful friend or family member will suffice. Alternatively, the technicians at the Genius Bar of your local Apple Store will be delighted to assist.

If the iPad is not recognised by your computer when connected, these support pages may be helpful with troubleshooting:

If your computer doesn't recognize your iPhone, iPad, or iPod - Apple Support

If you see an error when you update or restore your iPhone, iPad, or iPod - Apple Support

If your Windows PC doesn't recognize your iPhone, iPad, or iPod - Apple Support

You may also need your AppleID and associated password. If these have also been forgotten, they can be recovered here:

https://iforgot.apple.com

To recover your credentials, you’ll need access to one of the following:

  • Your primary email address mailbox that corresponds with your AppleID
  • Any of the secondary/recovery email addresses that should be configured for your AppleID account
  • Any of the trusted telephone numbers (fixed line or Cellular/Mobile) that are associated with your AppleID

Unless you AppleID account has not been fully/correctly configured, or has been seriously neglected, recovery of the AppleID and password should not be difficult.

If I did not post the errors it does not mean it never happens (happened). I have tried most relevant steps above. Basically, it is hit or miss. Historically, at least in my Apple product using history (2006 to present), the software restore/factory reset via iTunes has never been a smooth process. If I did not care I would not spend time posting this. My entire family uses Apple products. On the other hand, thank you for your effort to help.

I’m not suggesting that you don’t have a genuine difficulty - or that you see any particular error code - but as previously outlined, I have no recollection of seeing a report specifically concerning error #510.

I provided a link to the list of known errors in the hope that something therein might correspond with something that you do see. If not, then nothing has been lost in providing this information.

Update: within 72 hours after much attempts I was able to restore iPad Pro (2018) to the factory settings. Please note that I did not do anything besides the steps I had listed on my original post. During the process iPad kept losing the connection with the PC but eventually the software got restored to factory settings.

@LotusPilot, I will mark your replies as Answer as it did list out the steps I had utilized for the process.

Thank you,

Al.
