When I mirror my iPhone to my tv through my Apple TV, I used to have my phones screen go dark and I could control the video (on my phone) with my Apple TV remote.
Now, it’s whichever orientation I have the video in. I can control volume, but that’s it with the remote.
The orientation used to match the tv when mirrored. Seems like it was after the updates, but hoping to get some insight or information.

I’m using safari. I start a video and enter full screen. It used to go dark on my phone and show up fully on the tv through the Apple TV and using the Apple TV remote for volume and video interaction (play, pause, fast forward).
Now, when I open the video in safari it completely mirrors my phone.

That's good to know. From here, make sure both your iPhone and Apple TV are updated to the most current version. You mentioned this happening after updates, but we want to ensure they're fully updated as some updates have recently been released:
Update your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch
After updating, or if you are already updated, restart both devices to ensure fresh connections, then mirror to see if the same behavior happens.
